Dec 29, 2012 - Spring Beach

"After locating the small carpark closest to the planned entry point we parked and lugged our equipment about 200m along the beach to the base of the cliff at the southern end of Spring Beach.

After gearing up and performing pre-dive routines Richard, Cliff and I headed out parallel to the headland in search of the boulders and caves reputed to be in 18m. After about 15 minutes heading out over the sandy and grassy bottom and only reaching a maximum depth of less than 10m we turned right back torwards the end of the headland and came across the boulder field at 8m.

Visibility was about 3-4m with a slight onshore current. A few fish and one massive cray was spotted amongst the boulders and weed. We poked around amongst the boulders and in the overhangs. The boulders were 1-2m in height so a careful watch on buoyancy was required at that relatively shallow depth.

We headed back to shore after about an hour. This site is not bad on a calm day but the beach entry could be difficult in rough conditions.

The cafe on the corner near the bridge at Orford is a nice place to grab a bite to eat on the way back to Hobart."
