Jul 14, 2012 - Cathedral Caves

"Friday the 13th struck late as we started the day with only 5 of the original 7 divers due to flus and forgotten essentials (scuba tanks). We hitched up the boat to the club car (after some debate over the reliability) and headed off. All was going well till got to the bottom of the hill at Eagle Hawk neck and the car quietly died leaving just enough momentum to coast to the pull over beside the turn off to Pirates bay. So close!!
A couple of hours and one car latter we waved good bye to the club car (Le Citron) and put the boat in the water. Five hours after we initially met that morning we headed off to our dive site, leaving our bad luck behind. Due to our delayed start we were only able to get a single dive in. Due to the weather (a 1m gently rolling North-easterly swell) we decided to dive the Sisters instead of the caves.
James and I dived first and as we descended we were met by a swarm of butterfly perch. The visibility was fantastic (>20m) except for the perch (reduced to about 1m). I enjoyed the sponges and sea whips (and the Narcosis) out in clearer water while James steadily took photos with his Trimix enhanced clear head. All too soon our bottom time elapsed and we headed up for our staged deco stops, where I discovered how hard it was to set up a gas mixture on the fly, since I forgot to set the right mixture on the surface. Ysanne, Ren, and Michael descended next and enjoyed an excellent (if somewhat cool) dive. Upon surfacing, Ysanne vowed to get a dry suit before the next dive. We finished up the day without any further incidents returning to Sorell less one car and one boat (dropped off for repairs on the way back).
