"6 keen divers turned up for a dive on the Sunday of the first weekend of the cray season. All minds firmly focused on catching some crays, of course. We were undeterred by the expected crowds at the Boomer Bay boat ramp, and in fact found no queue of boats waiting to enter the water. They were all in already, it was parking the trailer that took a while!

Once out near Lagoon Bay we were on our own, almost. Everyone had 2 dives, searching, searching. The second dive was in the kelp forrest, so searching included nice scenery too.

Eric and James proved to be masters at cray catching. They are obviously well practiced. The rest of us, not so much. Some (me) were so bad at it they (she) couldn't even catch the big brute that wandered out of his hole, several metres across the sand, and stood whilst he was tickled under his chin. A fumbled grab and he was off, and safely home.

After a couple of nice dives all went home with at least one cray.

It was delicious.
