Jul 5, 2014 - Troy D

"Weather turned out superb for the day, despite the forecast. Very little wind and waves made for a very smooth ride out to the Troy D. On board we had Myself, James P, Justin V, and Brendan A. Arriving at the dive site we found the visibility to be very promising in that we could see the deco line from the surface. Someone has also attached a small boy to this making it easy to find. The dive itself was a little chilly (13 deg), especially for those of us having to resort to wetsuits. However, there was plenty of fish life and growth around the outside to distract. We also noted a new species on the wreck. Usually found around the Governor Island reserve in Bicheno, Aqua Gnomii was discovered in the wheelhouse. While this variant appeared to be of the captain sub-species, the roots appeared strong and it is hoped that other species may be attracted to the area.
Our second dive was further down the channel. Arriving we once again found the visibility very promising. This time in 12m of water we could clearly see the sand. This dive was a quick scallop dive, and aside from the odd Spider crab and snail it was pretty uneventful. We all managed to get our limit in about 20min.
